St. Gabriel Cyber School Web Design Certificate of Completion
This series of modules provides students with the knowledge and skills required to design an effective website. Students will learn design principles, html, graphics optimization and animation creation. Modules consist of a combination of guided practice and project work using software programs within the Macromedia Studio Suite.
Why should I take these courses?
In addition to learning the skills required to create an effective website, you will learn the skills necessary to be successful in future educational and employment endeavours. Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:
* Critique web site design
* Design an effective web site, from the perspective of the end user, using Macromedia Dreamweaver
* Create and optimize graphics using Macromedia Fireworks and Freehand
* Create animations using Macromedia Fireworks and Flash
* Develop basic Java programming skills
* Develop communication skills using current technologies
* Develop creative problem solving skills to address today’s communication needs
* Set learning goals, assess personal learning strengths, develop skills for life long learning
* Plan, design and carry out a project from start to finish with well-defined objectives and outcomes
* Select and use appropriate tools and technology for a project
Who should take these courses?
These courses are designed for grade 10 to 12 students who are interested in Web and graphic design. You do not need to have specialized computer skills, however, you should have basic key boarding and file management skills. If you are willing to learn how to organize yourself and take control of your learning, we can help you with the technology. This certificate of completion is available to full-time St. Gabriel students or to students who receive special permission from St. Gabriel school administration.
Software requirements.
Students registered in the Web Design Certificate will be required to have access to Macromedia Studio MX 2004 or higher. The Studio software package includes Macromedia’s DreamWeaver, Flash, Fireworks, and Freehand. In partnership with WestWorld Computers the St. Gabriel Educational price is CDN $299.00. Retail value for this same suite is approximately CDN $1200.00, resulting in a savings of over $900.00.
Students who would like an introduction to Macromedia Studio before purchasing the software may be able to access a school licensed copy of Macromedia Studio through our St. Gabriel software server. Please contact St. Gabriel for further information.
